Tidwell earned Freshman All-American honors in 2021. As a draft-eligible sophomore in 2022 he missed the first six weeks with shoulder stiffness, then returned to go 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 39 innings.

The New York Mets drafted Tidwell 52nd overall in the second round in 2022 — the third Vol taken that year, after first-rounders Drew Gilbert and Jordan Beck. He is now in the San Francisco Giants organization and debuted in the majors in 2025.
